Office of the CIO

The Office of the CIO plans high-level, long-term organizational goals, strategic direction, performance management and process management, as well as addressing day-to-day operational concerns like resource management, operational planning and strategy alignment.  Learn more…

Communication Technologies

Educational Technologies

ITS Educational Technologies (ITS ET) provides instructional technology applications and integration to support the University’s academic mission. Enterprise Applications

ITS Enterprise Applications develops and implements software solutions for University enterprises, schools and divisions. The team supports Student Administration, Human Resources, Payroll and Finance components of ConnectCarolina; enterprise reporting and data systems (including InfoPorte); and systems specific to University units such as The Friday Center and Energy Services. Enterprise Reporting & Departmental Systems

ITS Enterprise Reporting & Departmental Systems reports on the central administrative systems across campus. The team brings data into an integrated enterprise data warehouse. After bringing in the data, the group shares it across campus via information ports, SAS and Tar Heel reports. The group also works with units across campus, like the Gillings School of Global Public Health, to provide specific data needs that aren’t met by general reporting services. Learn more…

The Finance & Administration division provides financial management, human resources support and administrative services to ITS. Infrastructure & Operations

ITS Infrastructure & Operations (I&O) manages the ITS data centers and provides around-the-clock support for ITS business computing activities. I&O also supports the infrastructure for the campus desktop computers and maintains the infrastructure for the operating systems for non-research ITS servers and for disaster recovery and business continuity activities for ITS. Research Computing

ITS Research Computing aims to provide a world-class computing infrastructure as well as other technology tools and capabilities to support the research needs of UNC-Chapel Hill faculty and staff. Research Computing’s goal is to provide a state-of-the-art environment to support the highest level of multidisciplinary research and help UNC-Chapel Hill become the premier research university in the United States. Security & Identity Management

This ITS division manages the University’s Information Security Office and Identity Management. The Security Office is responsible for coordinating and ensuring that information security across the University is consistent with industry best practices and the University’s compliance obligations. Identity Management (IdM) identifies individuals within an enterprise or group and defines and controls the access they have to information and resources within a computer network based on their roles and circumstances. Learn more…
