ITS Project Portfolio & Change Management plans, manages and ensures the successful outcome of projects, especially those with a divisional or institutional scope. The group applies and expands portfolio, project and change management knowledge in ways that support its colleagues, is transparent, agile and inclusive of all campus constituents.

 

Project Portfolio & Change Management Service Areas

Portfolio Management

The team provides visibility for the key projects and initiatives that ITS is working on through the ITS Project Portfolio. The group assesses a diverse range of projects, dependencies, risks, and their resource needs. The team then works with the IT or project lead to ensure the project has the right level of support to finish successfully. The team members maintain the ITS Project Portfolio for the UNC-Chapel Hill community on the ITS Project website.

Project Management

The team applies project management knowledge to IT projects, focusing on projects with a divisional and institutional scope. The team members collaborate with partners across campus and beyond to establish motivated and effective project teams. They provide project leadership, consulting, or coaching in any or all phases of the project. These phases include project planning, execution, monitoring, closing, and transitioning to operations. The group’s goal is to ensure projects are successful in meeting their objectives.

Change Management

The change management professionals on the team guide and support the UNC-Chapel Hill community through information technology changes. After making sure they understand what is changing and who is affected, the team members design tailored strategies to ensure everyone who is affected is prepared. They work closely with project managers, teams and stakeholders to deliver on strategies, and they use project management techniques to help keep the change management work on track. Their goal is to speed the adoption of and reduce disruption caused by changes.
