ITS Student Employment Opportunities

ITS student positions offer valuable real-world work experience and many positions offer flexible, remote and/or hybrid schedules. Undergraduate and graduate students from all backgrounds and majors can find their place at ITS.

Service Desk

The ITS Service Desk is one of the first points of contact for tech support services for all Tar Heels. The Service Desk team provides support through phones, chat, web and walk-in services. At the Service Desk, students work alongside full-time professional staff and can progress to be student leads.


  • Tech Support: This person provides technical computer support to faculty, staff and students. Areas of support include operating systems, software, various mobile devices, various email clients, internet browsers, networking and campus IT services.

ResNET employs 50 students who support the UNC-Chapel Hill residential community. ResNET provides reliable on-site IT support, education and delivers new technologies. ResNET student positions include opportunities to gain professional experience in hardware and software support, events, esports, and marketing and social media. Student leadership positions are also available.

Digital Services

Digital Services offers central WordPress-based web development and hosting for the University. ITS Digital Services has work opportunities for enrolled students in the areas of design, content migration and customer support.

Information Security

The Information Security Office (ISO) oversees the security of the University’s electronic information. The Information Security Office is responsible for coordinating and ensuring information security across the campus in a manner that is consistent with industry best practices and UNC-Chapel Hill compliance obligations.

Educational Technologies

Educational Technologies provides instructional technology applications and integration to support the University’s academic mission. The division includes the following teams: Classroom Support & Learning Space Design, Educational Technologies Systems & Services, and Liaison to the Center for Faculty Excellence.


  • Classroom Hotline: Provides technical support to all general-purpose classrooms scheduled by the University Registrar’s Office. Among other tasks, Classroom Hotline students check equipment to make sure it’s in working order. To apply for a position, visit Classroom Hotline.


ITS Communications spearheads strategic communications efforts to reach faculty, staff, students and researchers across the University community. The team creates and manages content for the ITS website, ITS News, staff newsletter and social media accounts. The team also provides graphic design and UX services to ITS. Student workers get the chance to work on a team and choose projects that excite them. 


  • IT Communications Associates for a summertime team: Journalism students are preferred but, if you have a knack for multi-media reporting and writing, know your way around AP style and WordPress, and are detailed-oriented and comfortable with technology, don’t hesitate to apply.
