What is it?

The Space Planning and Occupancy Tracking System (SPOTS) serves as the system of record for all building and room information across campus.  Currently, only some of these buildings and rooms are represented in ConnectCarolina.  This project will create an automated recurring process that will add, update and remove building and room information in ConnectCarolina based on the information in SPOTS.

Why are we doing it?

The goal is for the Registrar’s Office to be able to see all the room assignments for courses in ConnectCarolina so they have the ability to find where any student is at any given time.  Implementation, resulting from this project, will allow for those scheduling courses to select the appropriate room for their course, which will then establish the full student/course/location relationship.  This will ensure better compliance with audit requirements and more importantly, facilitate the process of knowing which classes and students are in each classroom.

How does this impact our UNC community?

Staff in the Registrar’s Office will have access to query this data and will have reporting access.

Staff in Departments will be able to select the appropriate physical location when scheduling courses.

When is this happening?

The project started on October 9, 2023, and is expected to be completed by end of the 2023.
