ITS Communication Technologies designs, supports and maintains the communication systems, network and telephony infrastructure for the campus. The department also charts new directions and capabilities for integrated telecommunications and high-speed networking.
Communication Technologies Service Areas
Our networking group is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the IT infrastructure for the entire UNC-Chapel Hill campus. Our goal of maintaining and evolving a high-performance, high-availability networking environment positions us to stay ahead of the needs of the faculty, staff and students in their education, research, administration and service missions. Engineering & Operations
The ITS Communication Technologies Engineering and Operations (E&O) division is responsible for all aspects of the University’s voice, video and data communications transport infrastructure. The group is responsible for the design, engineering, construction, operation and maintenance of the campus fiber optic network, digital microwave networks, telephony and voice messaging systems (legacy Centrex and new VoIP), cable television (CATV) and video networks, third-party networks, materials management, and logistics. The group also oversees the campus cellular neutral hosting/DAS deployment. In addition, E&O provides the related customer service support functions for all faculty, staff, students and vendors.
