TIM (Time Information Management) 2.0
- SPONSOR(S): Walter Miller
- DEPT OR DIVISION: ITS Enterprise Applications
- TECHNICAL LEAD: Don Hepp
- STATUS: In progress
All employees at the University use TIM, the University’s time reporting and accruals system, making it the most widely-used administrative system at the University. TIM is the University’s branding for a product called “Workforce Central,” which is made by the company UKG. Workforce Central is approaching end-of-life and needs to be replaced. The TIM 2.0 project will replace Workforce Central with another product by UKG called “Data Dimensions,” which has similar or better features.
The project will be a partnership between ITS, the Finance Division, and the TIM Administrators in the schools and divisions. The project will also require testing support from the Office of Human Resources and the Payroll Team. Once the replacement is completed, the University will have a supportable and affordable option for managing employee time and accruals for many years to come.
Classroom Wireless Redesign
- EXECUTIVE SPONSOR(S): John Mack
- DEPT OR DIVISION: ITS - IT Infrastructure
- TECHNICAL LEAD: Ryan Turner
- STATUS: Not Started
Supporting and improving wireless capabilities across campus is a continuing priority for ITS. This project seeks to improve the wireless capabilities in the large classrooms on campus and better support the increased numbers of students, faculty and staff in these concentrated areas. Wireless infrastructure includes the size/bandwidth of the Internet pipe, the firewall, the switches, and the wireless access points themselves. Infrastructure is by far, the most critical and important piece relating to how successful our school’s technology is used or implemented. We will benchmark the performance pre and post installation to validate the design.
HIPAA Campus Risk Assessment for HIPAA Covered Units
- EXECUTIVE SPONSOR(S): Dennis Schmidt, Katherine Georger
- DEPT OR DIVISION: ITS Information Security
- TECHNICAL LEAD: Mel Radcliffe
- STATUS: In Progress
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a broad federal law that is in part designed to provide national standards for protection of certain information related to the provision of or payment for health care. There are currently eleven HIPAA covered units outside of the School of Medicine which need to comply with the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules. We will conduct a risk analysis to identify potential compliance gaps in the University’s information security program. Additionally, we will evaluate risks to ensure that their information systems maintain ePHI* and ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place. The results of the risk analysis will inform future decisions of security initiatives.
*electronic protected health information (ePHI) is protected health information (PHI) that is produced, saved, transferred or received in an electronic form. In the United States, ePHI management is covered under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Security Rule.
DUO Universal Prompt
- DEPT OR DIVISION: ITS Information Security
- TECHNICAL LEAD: Chad Redman
- CHANGE MANAGER: Rachel Lillis
- STATUS: Not Started
Duo is one of the multi-factor authentication tools that the University uses to keep UNC’s systems safe and stay ahead of security threats. In February 2022, Duo released a new version of its Web-based prompt that improves accessibility and can automatically send to the last authentication method you used to authenticate – speeding up the process. The new version has a different look with some changes in functionality so the change will be noticeable to faculty, staff, and students. This is a continuation of Duo’s efforts to increase accessibility and improve usability, which started last year with the mobile app update.
