What is the project?

Exempt Professional Staff (EPS), part of EHRA, will be subject to a new Personal Leave Accrual structure.  Existing EHRA staff will be given the opportunity to opt-in to this new accrual structure or grandfathered to stay with the current vacation accrual structure.  New UNC Chapel Hill EHRA employees will automatically be placed into the new Personal Leave Accrual structure.  This program is intended to address all system and process components that will need to be added or changed to accommodate.  The program includes 3 related projects:

  • EHRA Bi-weekly Paygroup
  • Personal Leave Accrual Structure
  • EPS Data Mart Enhancement
  • Leave Liability
  • New Compensation Structure

Why are we doing it?

This effort supports and aligns with mandatory policy updates from the UNC System Office for personal leave for EHRA/EPS employees.

How does this impact our UNC community?

The UNC System Office policy comes into effect on January 1, 2025, and will impact:

  • New employees.
  • Existing EHRA employees who decide to opt-in to the new personal leave accrual system.
  • SHRA employees who convert to EHRA AND decide to opt-in to the new personal leave accrual system.
  • EHRA employees who become subject to the new Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) limits as of 1/1/25.

The program will also impact the following stakeholder groups:

  • Central and departmental HR Staff
  • Payroll Staff
  • Finance
