CarolinaGO, the official University mobile app for UNC-Chapel Hill, is now used by some 10,000 members of the campus community.
The app enables students, faculty and staff to easily access resources such as dining options, a campus map, walking directions, bus routes and campus events. It also is the only native mobile platform for Sakai and ConnectCarolina. Through this mobile version of ConnectCarolina, students can conveniently add or drop classes, view class schedules, change emergency contacts and view basic financial aid information.
Collaborative creation
Launched in October 2014, the app was created through collaboration between a small student team and Information Technology Services. CarolinaGO is run and managed by the current student team of founding member Diana Dayal as well as Brent Comstock and Allie Polk.
ITS and the student team continue to work together to add helpful features to CarolinaGO, based on campus feedback. The goal is to continue to attract new users, including from each incoming class.
CarolinaGO highlighted at conference
CarolinaGO certainly attracted interest from attendees of the 2016 Kurogo Higher Ed Mobile Conference, held March 22-24 at California State University Northridge. Dayal and Kate Hash, Manager, ITS Communications & Digital Services, shared Carolina’s experiences with CarolinaGO as speakers on separate panels at the conference.
Eric Kim, a Modo Labs co-founder, also discussed CarolinaGO in his conference presentation. He later tweeted, “.@carolinaGOapp is clearly this year’s trending app at #kurogo2016 – so many shout-outs, much love.”
