ITS Change Manager Jackie Treschl has co-launched a new EDUCAUSE community group for organizational change management.
In the first 10 days alone, the Organizational Change Management (OCM) Community Group attracted more than 250 members from schools across the United States and Canada.

“That shows how much interest there is in the topic and how much need there was for the community group,” said Treschl of ITS Project Portfolio & Change Management.
Treschl, who will co-lead the (OCM) Community Group, co-launched it because EDUCAUSE had no group where organizational change management fit.
EDUCAUSE, of which UNC-Chapel Hill is an organizational member, is an association of technology, academic, industry and campus leaders who advance higher education through information technology. Community groups are online communities that enable EDUCAUSE members to connect with colleagues around a common topic. The Organizational Change Management Community Group joins more than 75 other EDUCAUSE community groups.
Collaborative space to learn, exchange ideas, grow
Treschl, who has worked for the University for more than 11 years and is a graduate of Carolina, will co-lead the OCM Community Group with Dena Barnwell, a Towson University change management specialist.
The OCM Community Group is open to all EDUCAUSE members who are passionate about supporting people, process, and technology changes in higher education.
“Whether you’re new to OCM, a seasoned practitioner or just want to learn what the buzz is all about, our community offers a collaborative space to learn, exchange ideas and grow together,” Treschl said.
UNC-Chapel Hill is an organizational member of EDUCAUSE, meaning that all UNC students, faculty and staff are eligible for individual membership at no cost. Members can participate in all EDUCAUSE opportunities.
Treschl is one of several ITS employees who hold leadership roles in EDUCAUSE community groups:
- Calvin Groves, Director of Customer Support & Outreach, co-leads the Young Professionals Community Group.
- Ryan Turner, Director of Networking and the Operations Center, co-leads the Network Management Community Group.
- Kelly Johnson, ITS Communications Manager, serves on the IT Communications Community Group Cabinet.
Abundant opportunities to connect
You also can connect with colleagues at UNC System schools on the topic of organizational change management — and with Treschl — through UNC CAUSE.
Last year Treschl co-launched a similar group within the UNC CAUSE community. It’s called the Organizational Change Management & Communications (OCMC) Special Interest Group (SIG). Treschl co-chairs the group with Ellen Burnette at Appalachian State University and Sara Cavenaugh at UNC-Greensboro.
It is a collaborative community of IT communicators, organizational change managers, and other professionals interested in the people side of change. The group fosters camaraderie, support and the exchange of innovative ideas.
“Whether you are passionate about communication strategies, navigating organizational shifts, or promoting IT initiatives, the OCMC SIG is a place for you to connect and learn,” Treschl said.
You can get involved with the SIG by joining its Slack channel or by requesting to join its Google group.
The UNC CAUSE organization is open to UNC System professionals who provide insight and support for the constituent institutions in their pursuit of the use of information technology.
