Have you played the Cyber Bowl? If not, there’s still time to play and help UNC-Chapel Hill win. The competition kicked off on October 1 and runs through October 31.

The first-ever Cyber Bowl is a month-long cybersecurity quiz challenge between UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State University and Duke University. ITS and the Information Security Office orchestrated the competition with their counterparts at the other two universities to prove which campus is the most cyber savvy. The winning University earns bragging rights and individual participants are entered to win a prize.

It’s easy and fun to play the Cyber Bowl. To compete, log into the Cyber Bowl website, hosted by NC State University, with your Onyen and take a five-question quiz on topics such as passwords and phishing. Each completed quiz earns points for your team and enters you into an individual prize drawing.

UNC, NC State remain tight competitors

In the first days of competition, UNC took an early lead, surging ahead of NC State and Duke. But by the end of the week, NC State had gained the lead and has since remained just ahead of UNC.

So far, almost 1,500 UNC students, faculty and staff have played and earned a point for Carolina. This means that nearly 4.5% of our total faculty, staff and student population has taken the cybersecurity challenge and put Carolina that much closer to winning the inaugural Cyber Bowl.

There’s still time to join the game and boost UNC’s score. Carolina students, faculty and staff are all encouraged to take a few minutes to play the game and earn points to beat Duke and NC State. If you’ve already played, encourage another Tar Heel to participate and help put UNC in the history books as the winner of the first-ever Cyber Bowl.

About National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

The Cyber Bowl runs through October 31 as part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. UNC-Chapel Hill celebrates National Cybersecurity Awareness Month as part of a global effort to help people learn about cyber safety and security.

Businesses, governments and schools — including UNC — celebrate National Cybersecurity Awareness Month to remind everyone how important it is to keep our online spaces safe and secure.

In October 2004, the National Cyber Security Alliance and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security designated the month as a time to raise awareness about cybersecurity to increase the nation’s resiliency in case of a cyber incident. The grassroots movement has become a united effort towards supporting a safer and more resilient cyberspace.
