Carolina Computing Initiative (CCI) has unveiled the Spring 2017 computer lineup. Under the new CCI contract with Lenovo, this newest generation of computers is discounted more than ever before and includes significant upgrades.
For the first time, all CCI computer models will come with a minimum of 8 GB RAM, a 256 GB or larger solid-state drive and all models except the Miix 510 will include the Keep-Your-Drive warranty option.
New features include touch enabled and digital pen
With the addition of a touch screen to the ThinkPad 13 2nd Gen, three of the five CCI model laptops are now touch enabled and two models include a digital pen. Finally, the ThinkCentre Tiny and Tower models have been upgraded to the latest Kaby Lake processors from Intel and the ThinkStation P310 will be upgraded in May.

Lenovo will deliver within five business days
Lenovo has committed to a five-business-day service-level agreement for delivering CCI model orders. Stock of all CCI models will be kept at Lenovo’s facility in Whitsett, N.C. UNC-Chapel Hill orders submitted through ConnectCarolina/ePro will ship directly from this stock.
“We are already seeing significantly shorter delivery times resulting from this change,” said Suzi Conti, CCI Team Lead.
“One of the stipulations around this delivery-time commitment is that we have to accurately forecast Carolina’s purchasing volume of CCI models,” she said. “If you know that your department will be making a large purchase of CCI model computers, like 20 or more computers, please send a Remedy ticket to CCI letting us know the quantity and expected timeline for submitting your order.”
New contract runs through 2021
Lenovo has a four-year contract to supply desktop and laptop computers to UNC-Chapel Hill through CCI from 2017 through 2021. The contract, which took effect January 1, 2017, applies to computers and support services purchased by UNC-Chapel Hill faculty and staff through the CCI.
Launched in fall 2000, the CCI ensures that the University community has access to high-quality and affordable laptop and desktop computers and exceptional hardware, software and support packages for educational uses.
