Hashtag for NCSAM at UNC

This month ITS News is recognizing National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) by sharing advice, insights and resources with you on all sorts of digital security topics.

We’re dovetailing with the national campaign —this is the 11th year that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has sponsored a series of events and initiatives across the country during the month of October.

We want to help you protect yourself from cybersecurity risks that can threaten your finances, identity and privacy. We all share a responsibility to protect the critical infrastructure and digital technology that enable our way of life. In fact, this year’s NCSAM theme is Our Shared Responsibility.

Three simple steps

Each one of us can take a few simple steps to make the Internet more secure. For starters:

  • Set strong passwords
  • Limit the amount of personal information you post online
  • Keep your operating system, browser, and other critical software optimized by installing updates

ITS’ ongoing coverage

Visit this website throughout October for twice-weekly posts offering cybersecurity advice from experts and other tech tips. We’ll share ways to securely use your mobile phone on public wireless, the realities of passwords, insights on security in the cloud and security maintenance tips for your personal computer and other devices.
