TAP Core Projects

TAP's core projects (jump to the project guide) investigate technologies identified in TAP Technology Tracking through a process of prototyping new and innovative services.

Internal core projects allow ITS to examine important trends, and gain an understanding of potential impacts and applications. As prototypes emerge, TAP works with other ITS groups to develop collaborative projects, applying these prototypes to innovative applications and services for the university.

The core projects provide a learning experience for TAP staff, ITS peers, and other colloaborators. Through collaborative projects, reports, presentations, and technology roadmaps, TAP accomplishes knowledge transfer and acts as an incubator for new services.

The TAP Project Approach

TAP's core projects are based on a set of future-oriented narrative scenarios written from the user perspective. Using the scenarios as a guide, the projects incorporate emerging technologies into scenario implemention. The outcome of each project is a working scenario implementation as well as technology assessment data and lessons learned.

The working project implementation includes a demo component that serves as a proof of concept of the technologies under assessment. The goal for demos is to be compelling and realistic enough to capture the interest and imagination of non-technical observers.

Project Technology Considerations

TAP's core projects incorporate technologies from the list of technologies that TAP is tracking.

Many of these technologies are the subject of current academic and industry research. TAP's goal is not to invent or develop new technologies, but rather to work as a leading-edge consumer, integrator, and innovator of new developments, toolkits, and research implementations.
