Research Training

Service description

ITS Research Computing offers hands-on and lecture-style training courses to help researchers and students use central computing systems. In addition, we offer training courses and workshops targeting specific software applications, programming tools and coding techniques.

Courses are typically one to three hours in length, although some workshops run multiple days. All courses are held on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus.

Standard offerings each semester include:

  • MPI and OpenMP
  • Introduction to Research Computing systems (KillDevil, Kure)
  • Python
  • Perl
  • Linux – introductory and intermediate
  • Matlab

Other courses may be offered as needed.

In addition, Research Computing can link you to other training resources offered through Xsede and other national programs.

Customer responsibilities

Customers are responsible for registering in advance and arriving on time to the classes. There are waiting lists for many courses; if you cannot attend, cancel your registration at least 24 hours in advance so another researcher can participate.
