Service Description
ITS Research Computing offers hands-on and lecture-style training courses to help researchers and students use central computing systems. In addition, we offer training courses and workshops targeting specific software applications, programming tools and coding techniques.
Courses are typically one to three hours in length, although some workshops are multi-day. All courses are held on the UNC campus.
Standard offerings each semester include:
- MPI and OpenMP
- Introduction to Research Computing systems (Topsail, Emerald, Kure)
- Python
- Perl
- Linux – introductory and intermediate
- Matlab
Other courses may be offered as needed.
In addition, Research Computing can link you to other training resources offered through TeraGrid and other national programs.
Hours of Availability
Training courses are offered on selected days during each semester. Summer offerings are typically fewer.
Customer
Faculty, postdocs, staff and students engaged in research. An Onyen is required to register for a course.
Customer Responsibilities
Customers are responsible for registering in advance and arriving on time to the classes. There are waiting lists for many courses; if you cannot attend, you should cancel your registration at least 24 hours in advance so another researcher can have the opportunity to participate.
How Do We Charge
Currently, there are no charges associated with training courses and workshops.
