MetroEthernet (Data) Service

Service Description

MetroEthernet service is a Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) or Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) provided point-to-point virtual Ethernet link, typically in 5Mb or 10Mb increments (up to 1Gb) depending on customer requirements. This facility is primarily used by off-campus customers with high bandwidth requirements, to connect to the campus data network.

Hours of Availability

In-service and emergency support: 24 hours a day – 7 days a week (subject to periodic scheduled downtime for system maintenance and repair) New service provisioning: Monday through Friday – Normal University working hours (excluding observed holidays)

All UNC-CH faculty and staff

Customer Responsibilities

Customer must submit a service requisition with an approved funding source. Cost of MetroEthernet service does not include required data switch and/or router equipment (will be quoted separately, if required.)

How Do We Charge

MetroEthernet service is charged at current vendor cost , plus 10% overhead.
