Campus telephone service (Centrex, POTS, VoIP)

Service Description

This service is for a traditional phone connection (POTS = Plain Old Telephone System) or a VoIP phone connection, if available. Since the phone numbers and the traditional phone lines are assigned out of the AT&T central office on Rosemary Street, ITS manages the enabling or disabling for a functional phone line, assuming there is usable copper cable from the building telecom closet/s to the end user location. The service also includes the proper updating of the PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) registry tables, which have the number to physical location data stored to be used by first responders in case of a 911 emergency request. The VoIP connection is slightly different from the traditional phone.
  • Land lines (Centrex, POTS)
  • Install and/or connect wall outlet
  • Configure line with carrier to central office
  • Land lines (VoIP)- MAC (moves, adds & changes)
    • Install (if necessary wall outlet)
    • Configure data port for VoIP VLAN
    • Configure VoIP Call Manager

Hours of Availability

In-service and emergency support: 24 hours a day – 7 days a week (subject to periodic scheduled downtime for system maintenance and repair) New service provisioning: Monday through Friday – Normal University working hours (excluding observed holidays)

All UNC-CH faculty and staff (including UNC Hospitals)

Customer Responsibilities

Customer must submit a service requisition with an approved funding source, along with the specific room/wall/desk location where service is required.

How Do We Charge

$48 per month recurring bundled communications fee, per phone line. Move, add and change orders also include any one-time vendor charges, plus installation fees billed at $45 per hour.
