UNC-CH Information Technology Services

Infrastructure Management and Operating Systems Support

Systems supports the application servers of the academic, administrative, and business portions of the University. These servers range from an IBM mainframe to multiple Unix boxes. Windows servers and Linux are also increasingly part of the mix. These servers are housed at 440 West Franklin and at Phillips Hall. Systems supports the installation and maintenance of the software infrastructure (e.g., asset monitoring and management) as well as of the Operating System itself. Systems works with application programmers on new initiatives as well as to ensure the service of existing applications. Systems also works with Distributed Computing to provide backup and recovery of ITS supported data. Systems and Distributed Computing can provide a full service solution in house that can complement offerings from application vendors selling turnkey packages to University departments.
