ITRC steps up for CTOPS

Incoming freshman and transfer students will have a new CTOPS experience this year, thanks to the efforts of the ITS Response Center (ITRC) Walk-in Services team.

Beginning June 2-3, incoming freshman and transfer students attending Carolina Training and Orientation Program Sessions (CTOPS) will be treated to on-site, hands-on training as they receive their Carolina Computing Initiative (CCI) laptop.

June IAIG to demo Diigo

Webmasters to learn about Adobe Flash

The next Webmasters meeting will feature Jay Almers, Web designer and developer for the School of Journalism, presenting on accessing data-driven objects in Adobe Flash. The meeting will be held on Thursday, June 5, at 2 p.m. in ITS Manning 5102.

For years, Flash has been a sought-after commodity in the world of Web site design and development. Now that the acceptance rate of Flash is substantially higher, it is everywhere - from full-blown sites, to banner advertisements, to media players or simple navigational components. Flash is being used by an increasingly large number of content providers to deliver high-quality rich media to their visitors.

Web Services designs new UNC Press site

On May 14, the University of North Carolina Press launched its new Web site at http://uncpress.unc.edu/. The site was rearchitected and redesigned by ITS Web Services.

Web Services offered consultation to guide UNC Press through the Web development process, redesigned the look and feel of the site and provided Web templates that enabled UNC Press employees to build their site out further themselves.

Online tutoring available from the comfort of home

It’s dark outside. And raining. A student needs help with a calculus problem, but doesn’t want to leave the residence hall to go to the Math Help Center, which closes soon anyway. What’s a student to do? With support from ITS Teaching and Learning this past academic year, two departments offered students online tutoring in the comfort and safety of their own rooms.
