ITS Computer Lab in SASB offers wireless projection
December 13, 2007 at 1:26 pm | In Features, Instructional News, Service UpdatesFlash drives, cables and juggled e-mail attachments, stand back: now, giving a professional presentation or sharing information with classmates is as easy as the click of a button. ITS recently installed technology in three ITS Computer Lab meeting rooms in SASB-South that allows users to wirelessly connect their computer to a projector.
After users have downloaded the free software to their laptops, they can connect to any wireless projector in the rooms off the SASB lab, allowing them to project their computer screen for a group to see. They can also send video to the projector unit, making streaming possible even with large file sizes.
“It’s a way for students to work on a project together seamlessly,” said Jeremiah Joyner, ITS Teaching and Learning Applications and Platforms manager. “Students can quickly share information with the group by trading off wireless connections to the projector. Multiple people can bring information and input without juggling one resource and one space in the room.”
The service is open to anyone on campus, and can only be accessed via the UNC-Chapel Hill wireless network. The software is compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista. Wired connections are also available in rooms with the wireless projection technology.
Currently, room availability is first come, first served. Please contact the Classroom Hotline at 962-6702 to check availability, obtain the software or learn more.
