ITS upgrades campus data backup solution

December 7, 2007 at 7:58 am | In Features, Service Updates

ITS’ automated data backup solution, Iron Mountain, is getting a makeover. Upgrades to the system make it more visually appealing, easier to use and more streamlined. They also make it easier for campus users to sign in, by using their Onyen to login for access to registration, installation and data retrieval.

“These updates make everything that Iron Mountain does as simple as it could be,” said Chris Williams of ITS. “In addition, they make Iron Mountain available to customers with Windows Vista and Tablets, not just Windows XP.”

Iron Mountain is available for a renewable one-year subscription, which costs $120 for personal licenses and $108 for departmental bulk licenses. Customers can order Iron Mountain online and visit the ITRC for assistance with the installation and first backup. An ITRC installation is recommended if their computer will be connecting to the Internet from off-campus.

The online data backup and recovery service gives users on-demand data retrieval 24 hours a day, seven days a week, over any Internet connection anywhere in the world. Easy to use, efficient and reliable, Iron Mountain protects data through regular, secure, automatic backups.

ITS encourages faculty, staff and students who choose not to install Iron Mountain to back up their data manually using solutions such as CDs, DVDs, USB drives, iPods and e-mail. For more information about backing up your data, visit http://help.unc.edu/?id=141.
