New IT analysis available to campus

Gartner Inc. has released its most recent trend information on the IT industry, offering several studies and articles about the changing IT landscape.

ITS subscribes to core research offered by Gartner Inc., a premier research and advisory firm in information technology, on behalf of the University. This means that students, faculty and staff have access to thousands of up-to-date research articles on core technology topics.

Visit Gartner to take advantage of more than 1,200 research analysts and tens of thousands of pages of original research.

Computer labs, support available across campus

ResNET offers program video, audio, handouts online

Did you really want to learn about legal music downloads, spyware or open source from a ResNET educational program, but that midterm exam or paper kept you away? Good news – you can now view past ResNET presentations online!

UNC-Chapel Hill ResNET now offers multimedia tools such as handouts, PowerPoint presentations, audio recordings and videos of past programs on its Web site, at the bottom of the Educational Programs page.

Webmasters to cover Web project planning

The next Webmasters meeting will be held Thursday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. in ITS Manning 2400. Wendy Dascoli, ITS Web Services manager, will present “Planning for a Web Site Project.”

Dascoli will discuss best practice strategies for planning a Web site design and development project. Most of her discussion will be based on ITS Web Services’ documentation and the Web Services Client Questionnaire.

IAIG speaker to discuss haptic devices

The Nov. 1 meeting of the Instructional Applications Interest Group (IAIG) will cover “The Third Dimension: The Potential of Haptic Devices in Education.” Jeff VanDrimmelen of the Office of Arts and Sciences Information Services (OASIS) will discuss how haptic device technology can impact education, and will bring haptic devices for attendees to try out. All interested faculty and staff are invited to attend.
