ITS staff and machines move to ITS Manning

Many ITS groups have moved to ITS Manning, including staff in the office of the CIO, Billing Services, Communications, Desktop Infrastructure, Information Security, Remedy Services, Research Computing, Teaching and Learning and Telecommunications. Several customer-facing groups, including the ITS Telecommunications Customer Service and Administrative Office and the Control Center, now work in ITS Manning.

CCI load includes Windows XP, Office 2007 and IE 7

Microsoft’s new operating system, Vista, will not initially be available due to concerns that application and driver incompatibilities may adversely affect the ability of students, faculty and staff to carry out their academic work. The CCI Lenovo computers sold this spring and summer, however, will be Vista compatible and stuents will be offered a free upgrade to Vista in the fall.

Reed’s Second Life lecture draws crowd

The lecture, “Computing the Future: The 3-D Net,” covered some of the technology advances in the past 10 years and predicted some of the technical evolutions we can expect in the next decade.
