M2 project highlighted in Chronicle of Higher Ed

The Memex Metadata (M2) project was featured in the February 9, 2007, issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education. M2 is a joint project between the School of Information and Library Science, the biology department and ITS. The project also receives support from Microsoft Research.

The Chronicle provides a temporary free link for non-subscribers.

March IAIG meeting to discuss workshops

The March 1 meeting of the Instructional Applications Interest Group (IAIG) will promote information sharing. Members of the group will talk about some recent workshops and presentations that they’ve given or attended. The group will also discuss what goes into planning and delivering a successful presentation (targeting your audience, deciding what/how much to include, mode of presentation, etc.).

The meeting will take place in Hanes 404 on Thursday, March 1, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Campus IT staff prepare for Windows Vista

It’s here - as of Feb. 8, Windows Vista is officially available for faculty and staff, but not necessarily ready for full-scale deployment. At UNC-Chapel Hill, IT staff are testing how the new operating system interacts with campus systems, programs and applications. ITS is putting together a team, led by the ITS Response Center and ITS Security, to ensure that all applications are properly tested before Vista is supported on campus. This testing effort will ensure a smoother transition to the new OS.
