December 15, 2006 at 8:31 am | In Features, ITS AnnouncementsPublic health officials believe there is currently a heightened risk for pandemic influenza, and to prepare UNC-Chapel Hill for such a health emergency, the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Pandemic Influenza Preparedness suggested precautionary steps for departments, offices and administrative units. Campus groups like ITS are following the suggested preparation steps, the goal of which is to keep essential services operating with little or no interruption.

ITS’ Spero credited for Dec. 6 Word of the Day
December 13, 2006 at 11:00 am | In PeopleIT staff aren’t always connected with awards and recognitions concerning the English language and the humanities, but on Dec. 6, 2006, Simon Spero of ITS Enterprise Applications broke the mold. That day, Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Day was “cybrarian,” a term coined by Spero.
Merriam-Webster defines a cybrarian as “a person whose job is to find, collect, and manage information that is available on the World Wide Web.” The Oxford English Dictionary attributes the word’s first usage to Spero.

ITS Teaching and Learning creates “Just-In-Time Tutorials”

No more than five minutes in length, the tutorials, which focus on various aspects of the Oracle Calendar Windows Desktop Client (Version 10), are now available online for learners to complete on their own computer and in their own time.
