What computers will be affected by the recall?

The following models purchased between Feb. 2005 and Sept. 2006 may have batteries that are affected by this recall: T43, T43p, T60, R51e, R52, R60, R60e, X60, X60s. Additionally, customers who ordered an extra battery or received a replacement battery during that period may also be subject to the recall. CCI models that may be affected are T43, T60, R52, R60 and X60.

As part of the ongoing effort on campus to combat spam e-mail, ITS recently altered settings on open group mailing lists (listservs) so that only subscribers may post and so that new subscribers must be approved by a listserv administrator.

Sept. 29 Freaky Friday to discuss rich Web application development

Have you ever wondered whether Web applications can behave like standalone applications? Rich Web could be the answer for you. This Friday, Sept. 29, learn about the possibilities of object oriented enterprise rich Web application development. Attendees will discuss Object Oriented JavaScript programming, DHTML, CSS, AJAX, JSON, browser compatibilities and other related topics. If time allows, the session will include a demonstration of a pseudo-working enterprise rich Web application. This Freaky Friday will be held in ITS Franklin G102 at 11:00 a.m.

Business-related CBT courses now available

Human Resources’ Training and Development and Information Technology Services’ Teaching and Learning have partnered to bring a new library of computer-based training courses related to business skills to the UNC-Chapel Hill community for a one-year pilot.

“Whether you want to learn Oracle or time management, there’s a course for you,” said Elizabeth (Libby) Evans of ITS Teaching and Learning. “The courses offer practical tools that people can use every day – and they’re there whenever you need them.”

Reed to take part in Hurricane Katrina summit

Dr. Daniel Reed, vice chancellor for IT and CIO, will participate in a live virtual discussion of how advanced technology can aid in understanding hurricanes and other severe storms. He will be joined by Ed Seidel, director of the Center for Computation and Technology at Louisiana State University, and Bob Wilhelmson, atmospheric scientist at the University of Illinois.
