Web portal provides access to bioinformatics applications and training
August 12, 2005 at 2:30 pm | In Features, ITS Announcements, Research News, Service UpdatesThe NC Bioportal Project recently launched the NC Bioportal, a new bioinformatics portal that serves as a training resource and a tool for scientific studies for North Carolina researchers.
The portal, which supports more than 100 computational tools and biological data sets in a standards compliant environment, is intended for use by the state’s educational and research community. It was developed in part with seed funding from the University of North Carolina Office of the President for development of advanced research and education applications in high-performance computing, information systems, and computational and computer science.

ITS announces new assistant vice chancellors
August 3, 2005 at 1:51 pm | In ITS Announcements, PeopleThe Office of the Vice Chancellor for Information Technology has announced the hiring of seven assistant vice chancellors, each with responsibility over one of Information Technology Services (ITS) key divisions. ITS is the central organization providing all members of the Carolina community with telecommunications, computer support, networking, application development and other computing services for academic and administrative endeavors. The new assistant vice chancellors join Dr. Daniel Reed, vice chancellor for information technology and CIO; Robyn East, associate vice chancellor for IT and deputy CIO; and John Oberlin, associate vice chancellor for IT, as the senior management team for ITS.
