Octel voice messaging outage planned for March 10

February 28, 2007 at 8:00 am| In Bulletin Board

For the first time since its installation in 1993, the Octel voice messaging server will have a significant planned outage so that it can be moved from the Giles Horney Building to ITS Manning on March 10. The outage is scheduled to last the entire day although service could be restored sooner.

The move will directly affect all users of the campus voice messaging system and during the move there will be no access to voicemail. Calls currently directed to a voicemail box will ring continuously until the caller hangs up or the call is answered.

Voicemail “Auto Attendant” services (a service which provides callers with options for selection) will also be affected and non-operational during the move. Calls to Auto Attendant services will hear a continuous ring. The move is scheduled to occur during off-hours, so after-hours informational mailboxes will also not be available.

Laura Cooper, ITS Telecom analyst, with the Octel voice messaging server.
