KMT and Help Updated to Version 1.4

February 18, 2008 on 9:57 am | In Project Releases, KMT Notices, Helpsite Notices 1 Comment

The Knowledge Management team released an update to both the Knowledge Management Tool and the the Help site over the weekend The majority of the changes were small bugfixes and behind-the-scenes upgrades. The visible changes for both applications are listed below.

KMT

  • The most important and obvious change is that Review requests and Publication Approval requests will now generate emails to the subject in addition to creating Tasks. This means that if you send a review request to someone or submit a document for publication, you can assume that the relevant users are being contacted immediately by email.
  • User names throughout the system now include links to that users system profile. This should provide easier access to the Onyen and email address of the user for better communication, among other possibly helpful information.
  • A bug that prevented the Task list from being updated on login was fixed.

Help Site

  • The Search Results page now includes a count of the total returned documents from the query.

KMT and Help Updated to 1.3

December 17, 2007 on 3:27 pm | In Project Releases, KMT Notices, Helpsite Notices, Uncategorized

The Knowledge Management team would like to announce the 1.3 release of both the Knowledge Management Tool and the the Help site. This update, which will be put in place this evening at 5pm, will fix a number of small bugs and add several new features and style changes. Read on for details.

KMT

  • The Open Document function has been moved from the main navigation to the header of every KMT screen, making it accessible from anywhere in the application. This makes it a snap to switch between documents.
  • We've added predefined reports to the interface, putting information such as group membership and roles as well as lists of expired documents at your fingertips.
  • In addition, we've resolved a number of small bug issues and made a variety of improvements to the general look and feel of the KMT interface.

Help Site

  • The biggest single change is the addition of public comments on all documents. Now readers will be able to submit suggestions and comments on documents and, after a bit of moderation, have them published below the document in question. We're expecting that this will increase interactivity on the Help site and improve the overall quality of the document content.
  • Another big change involves improvements to the search functionality of help.unc.edu. With updates to the metadata and weighting of terms, searches should provide more relevant results. Advanced search queries can still be used, and users can once more easily search for documents by their ID number.
  • In addition to the search changes, the metadata terms in the document overview (the information summary just below each document) are now linked to advanced searches for other documents of that type. In addition to tags, users can now do simple searches by subject, genre, audience, and document group, all with a simple click.
  • As with the KMT, these changes come along with a wide number of bugfixes and improvements to the display and navigation of the Help site.

If you have any questions about these changes or would like to give us any feedback, please feel free to contact us at knowledge_management@unc.edu or submit a Remedy ticket to the ITS-KNOWLEDGE-MGMT group.
