Amusing Learning: Easy Paths to New Media Composition and Educational Change

Educators know that motivation and a spirit of inquiry translate into better learning. Why, then, is much of the work that takes place in classrooms, especially classrooms that feature writing, seen as uninteresting and uninspiring? A partial answer to such a question can be had by exploring the relationship between traditional compositions such as printed essays and contemporary forms of new media writing. New media compositions can open venues for creativity, motivation, and engagement in the classroom.
Daniel Anderson is associate professor and associate chair in the Department of English and Comparative Literature and director of the Studio for Instructional Technologies and English Studies.
