ITS Communication Technologies (formerly Telecommunications) designs, supports and maintains the production networking and telephony infrastructure for the campus. The group also charts new directions and capabilities for integrated telecommunications and high-speed networking.

Networking is responsible for the operations management of data network on the campus backbone and within all buildings of UNC-Chapel Hill, from the wall plate to the hand off point to the Internet, with the goal of maintaining and evolving a high-performance, high-availability networking environment that will stay ahead of the needs of the faculty, staff, and students in their education, research, administration, and service missions.

Engineering and Operations (E&O) is responsible for all aspects of the University’s voice, video and communications transport infrastructure. This includes the design, engineering, construction, operation and maintenance of the campus telephony and voice messaging systems, cable television (CATV) and video networks, fiber optic transport networks, third-party networks, materials management, and logistics. In addition, E&O provides the related customer service support functions for all faculty, staff, students, and vendors.
