The University’s eduroam wireless connection should reach a milestone this week.

A month ago UNC-Secure users outnumbered eduroam users two to one. As of last week, it was a 50-50 split, even as the overall number of wireless users jumped significantly as students returned to campus, said Jim Gogan, Assistant Vice Chancellor of ITS Communication Technologies.

Gogan projects that this week the number of eduroam users will surpass UNC-Secure users.

“That’s exciting,” he said. “The word is getting out.”

ITS Communication Technologies is retiring the UNC-Secure wireless connection on October 16 and making eduroam the University’s primary Wi-Fi connection.
