Creating an Online Degree Program

  • Client: UNC School of Medicine, Department of Allied Health Sciences, Division of Radiologic Science
  • TL Contact: Megan R. Bell
  • Collaborators: Division of Radiologic Science
  • Project Began: February 1, 2009
  • Project Ends: June 30, 2009

Description: The Division of Radiologic Science is developing a series of online courses as part of a distance education option for their B.S. Radiologic Science degree for practicing medical imaging professionals. Prospective students have already completed radiography programs and are working in healthcare institutions. They are seeking a B.S. degree to move their careers forward.

TL Interactive will consult with the Division of Radiologic Science as they design the online courses. Our team will provide advice on “best practices” in online instruction, and we will assist in identifying content that can be enhanced with multimedia. We will work closely with Radiologic content experts to develop multimedia components to supplement the online materials. Because prospective students are scattered across the nation and will not necessarily have access to high-speed Internet connections, our team will be conscious of developing media elements that can be easily accessed over a variety of hardware configurations.

The online courses will be delivered in Sakai, an open-source collaboration and course management tool that is currently being piloted at UNC-Chapel Hill.
