Creating a Faculty Portal

  • Project Ends: June 30, 2010

Description: TL Interactive is partnering with the Center for Faculty Excellence to create a Web portal where faculty members can find instructional “best practices” that pertain to their particular subject matter and instructional challenges. Biology professors, for example, can use the portal locate information on how to teach the complexities of cell division, while English professors can use the site to find recommendations on how to teach Shakespeare.

In addition to providing content-specific information, the portal will also house the latest research on effective teaching techniques. Faculty members can find suggestions on how to implement small group activities in a large class, how to encourage discussions, how to handle disruptive students, etc. Online filters and assessments will help faculty members quickly locate resources that relate to their particular instructional needs.

Providing instructional resources is only one component of the faculty portal; equally important will be the “electronic portfolio” feature, where professors can post their latest research, published papers, etc. Storing these materials in a central location will make it easier for faulty members to document their professional efforts.

The faculty portal is funded by a generous grant from Lenovo.
