Description: The NC Gerontology Consortium (hereafter know as the “Consortium”), which is part of the UNC Institute on Aging, strives to:
- Promote accessibility to courses and degree programs on aging among students and those in the aging services workforce
- Strengthen and expand the network of scholars in gerontology and geriatrics throughout North Carolina
- Provide an organizational structure to coordinate curricula and to enhance teaching skills using distance education technologies
To meet this goal, the Consortium is partnering with TL Interactive to create four twenty-minute Web modules that focus on topics that are of particular interest to learners in the healthcare industry: dementia, healthy aging, the economics of aging, and evidence-based programs regarding aging. Each module will include narrated animations that visually relay concepts in clear and simple terms. Practices and interactive exercises will allow learners to apply new knowledge in meaningful ways, while quizzes will assess their understanding of the content. Learners who complete a module and pass its quiz can print a Certificate of Completion demonstrating their participation in the course.
One of the unique challenges we will face with this project is the physical location of the content experts. Professors hail from universities scattered across the state, which adds a layer of complexity to the creative process. To facilitate development, TL Interactive will closely collaborate with the content experts to develop a template that can be applied to all four modules. The template will define the user interface, screen layouts, and various interactive options. Defining these elements from the outset will facilitate scripting and will enhance the development process.
