Panopto Pilot
Panopto CourseCast is a software-based lecture/presentation capture system that also allows students to take text notes during or after class that are then time-synced with a recorded session. CourseCast Recorder integrates on-screen video capture with input from any connected audio or video device. While Recorder currently runs only on Windows, students can use Windows or Macintosh browsers that work with Microsoft Silverlight to view recorded lectures, take notes, and search content.
Panopto CourseCast is an easy-to-use system that allows instructors or presenters to use their own laptops or classroom computers to easily record any content displayed on screen as well as audio and video. When the instructor publishes the materials to after class to http://coursecast.unc.edu, students can review all published materials in their web browsers and download the lecture audio in .mp3 format.
If an instructor chooses, he or she can also allow students to take notes during the session using Panopto's web-based notes tool. After the instructor publishes the recording to the course's space on the CourseCast server, students' notes are then synchronized with the recorded materials, making it much easier for students to review important parts of a lecture by searching those notes.
The Panopto company's video tutorial of how to view a CourseCast will give you a better sense of the kinds of materials that the system can capture. To view it requires installation of Microsoft Silverlight viewer.
