ITS Labs One Card Printing (Pharos) FAQs
Introduction
For the Fall Semester 2009, "ITS Print Plan" funds will become available starting August 23, 2009. All full-time, fee-paying students with no flags on their accounts will be given 800 pre-paid pages (or $40.00) at the beginning of each semester (Fall/Spring). Summer school students will receive 350 pages (or $17.50) for each summer session. After the funds are exhausted, each page will cost $.05. These funds can only be used towards printing done in the ITS Labs, and do not roll over to the next semester, and can not be refunded.

Where can I print?
You can use your ITS Lab print plan at any of the following locations:

How do I print using Pharos?
1. Submit a print job.
2. Enter your ONYEN and job name in the Pharos pop-up, and click “OK.”
3. Go to any ITS Print Release Station, and use your ONYEN to log in.
4. Swipe a OneCard or Guest Card to pay with.
5. Select a print job, and click “print.”
6. Log off of the Release Station.
Can I print from my laptop to a Pharos printer?

What if I'm not covered with the pre-paid pages?
Non fee-paying students, faculty, and staff pay $.05 cents a page from their OneCard’s Expense Account.
How can I tell what my print balance is?
Your balance, in dollars, is displayed at the release station after you swipe your One Card. You may also login here to view your balance.
Will my unused pages carry over to next semester?
No, a new balance off 800 pages (or $40.00) is given each semester (Fall/Spring).
How can I add money to my one card?
Go to http://onecard.unc.edu/payments.html to add money to your One Card.
How long will my print job stay in the print queue?
Print jobs stay in the queue for 1 hour, then are automatically deleted.
Can I submit a print job that goes over my pre-paid pages and pay for the balance?
No, the printing system can only use one print plan per print job. If you only have 2 pre-paid pages left and you submit a job that is 10 pages, you must break your print job into 2 separate jobs. Sending 2 pages to print from the ITS Lab plan and the remaining 8 pages to print from your expense account.
How much does a duplexed (piece of paper with ink on both sides) print job cost?
A duplexed print job will count as 2 pages from your ITS Labs print plan and will costs $.10. The printers are set by default to print as duplex, but each client can change this option before they submit a print job.
Are there any color printers in the labs?
There is one color printer that can be used from the PCs in the Student Union Computer Lab. The cost for color printing is $0.30 per side.
How can I get a refund for unprinted pages?
If Pharos charges you for a print job, but your pages don't print out, please go to the lab attendant and provide them with the information below, or if no lab attendant is present, go to the Online Help Request page and submit a request for a refund to the ITS Computer Labs. Please include your full name, PID and Onyen, the printing location, date and time of the error, number of pages submitted and the amount charged to your printing account. You will be contacted when your refund has been processed.
What happened to the network printers on my Vista machine?
If you install a network printer on a computer using Microsoft Vista, along with the Pharos client for Vista, sending a print job to the network printer will cause the print spooler to stop working and all printers to disappear. Currently Pharos does not have a solution for this and uninstalling the client is the only way to get the network printers to function properly.
