Virtual Lab (Beta)

ITS Labs has 5 academic computing labs across campus, but soon, every UNC student’s laptop will be a Virtual Lab! Students will be able to access the programs and resources found in the ITS Labs from any computer—run STATA on a netbook, Word 2007 on a MacBook, or SPSS on your mom’s PC. All the applications run on ITS’s fast servers, and can be accessed via a web browser from anywhere you can find an internet connection!
Connection Instructions

- Go to http://itslabs-xweb1.ad.unc.edu/citrix/xendesktop
- You must accept the security message in order to proceed.
- Login with your ONYEN.
- Download and install the Citrix client, if you have not already.
- You may be prompted to allow access to your local machine. Select the level of access that you wish to grant the Virtual session.
- While you are using the Virtual Lab, your local machine’s browser will likely notify you that your session has ended. This refers to your login status on the website, and does NOT affect your Virtual Lab session. You can close the local machine’s browser or log off the website, and your Virtual Lab session will still be active.
Setting Preferences

- Within the virtual session window, click on the gear icon at the top of the screen.
- Presentation Tab: choose settings for the virtual session’s resolution.
- USB Tab: choose what happens in the virtual session when you plug in a USB device.
- HDX Tab: set performance and access preferences. For increased Flash video performance, set Flash Acceleration to “Enabled.” Decide the level of access you want to give the Virtual Lab session to your local machine. Grant access to your local machine’s microphone.
- By clicking the USB icon on the Citrix toolbar, you can see a list of plugged-in devices. Click on a device to enable it within the virtual session.
