Jeannie M. Walsh Bio
Jeannie M. Walsh is a senior lecturer and the director of General Studies in the Department of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her M.S. degree from Oklahoma State University in 1984, where she subsequently taught the introduction to computers course for two years before joining computer science in 1986. For five years, she served as a research associate, managing a large contract from the Office of Naval Research. In the fall of 1991, she was promoted to lecturer. In addition to her teaching and managerial duties, she served as the department's Publications Director for nearly 13 years, stepping down in July 1999 in order to spend more time in the classroom. Walsh continues to serve as the main course instructor for Comp 101: Power Tools for the Mind, and for Comp 380: Computers and Society. She received the UNC Chancellor's Award for outstanding service in 1994, and the Computer Science Students Association Outstanding Teaching Award for the academic year 1997-98. She is a member of Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility, and of ACM.
