Educators know that motivation and a spirit of inquiry translate into better learning. Why, then, is much of the work that takes place in classrooms, especially classrooms that feature writing, seen as uninteresting and uninspiring? A partial answer to such a question can be had by exploring the relationship between traditional compositions such as printed essays and contemporary forms of new media writing. New media compositions can open venues for creativity, motivation, and engagement in the classroom. This presentation will show how to easily implement such assignments and will look at the implications of such changes for literacy and education.
