Responsibilities
Below is a break down with some of the specific responsibilities that RCCs have throughout each semester.
All RCCs must:
- maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA while employed.
- check email at least two times per day to receive and respond to important announcements and assignments in a timely fashion.
- provide on-site technical support to other students in the residence halls and document all support through our problem tracking system (Remedy).
- maintain communication with other residents in both customer service and casual situations on a daily basis.
- complete one IT educational program and assist with two others.
- assist Housing staff with at least two projects or programs.
- fulfill duties and tasks pertaining to an assigned Leadership Role.
- attend mandatory ResNET training the week before classes begin in the fall and spring semesters.
- actively participate in ResNET Fall Move-in support weekend, which involves providing technical support to a high volume of residents at the beginning of each semester. This is done through Hall Sweeps and centralized on-site support locations.
- attend a monthly staff meeting conducted by the full-time management team.
- attend a monthly area meeting conducted by the Senior RCC.
- participate in monthly support programs (SUV) throughout the semester in your area.
- submit monthly reports that provide feedback on performance and issues within your area.
- work on any additional special projects or assignments designated by the full-time management team.
Hours:
Typically, RCCs should expect to work:
- 20 - 25 hours during the first week of the semester for training and Fall Move-in.
- 7 - 10 hours per week after the first three weeks of the semester.
- 3 - 4 hours per semester on Semester Projects.
- 4 - 5 hours per month in staff, area meetings, and SUV Programs.
Senior RCC Responsibilities
Senior Residential Computing Consultants (SRCCs) are student management for the ResNET program. SRCCs are hired internally each semester and keep a close eye on the performance of the RCCs within their area in order to ensure that ResNET maintains its high level of service. SRCCs must also promote a group identity within their area so the RCCs feel comfortable approaching each other and the SRCC for assistance. SRCCs work closely with the full-time management staff for assistance, guidance, support, and feedback.
Prerequisites for employment:
- Must have been an RCC for at least one semester receiving an above average evaluation rating.
- Through employment as an RCC, must prove to possess effective leadership and communication skills. Management, delegation, and oversight skills are a definite must.
- Must be currently registered as an student at UNC-Chapel Hill.
- Have at least a 2.5 GPA.
- Must live in a specific on-campus ResNET reserved room during tenure. Rooms are located in University Housing and Granville Towers is NOT included. (Senior RCCs must be willing to relocate to a specific hall depending on the program's needs.)
- Must be willing to share a double room. Senior RCCs may request a roommate.
Responsibilities:
All Senior RCCs must:
- Check email at least 2 times daily to receive important announcements and assignments in a timely fashion.
- Maintain contact with other residents in both customer service and casual situations on a daily basis.
- Maintain communication with the management team on a regular basis.
- Manage and delegate requests for support to RCCs via the Remedy problem tracking system.
- Provide technical assistance for the RCCs.
- Supervise and assist RCCs with organizing and implementing their semester projects.
- Attend and provide assistance with at least 3 RCC programs per semester.
- Attend SRCC training prior to fall and spring semesters.
- Coordinate, manage, and provide consultation for RCCs and residents during ResNET Rush. ResNET Rush involves providing a high volume of technical support at the beginning of fall semester. This is done through Hall Sweeps and centralized on-site support locations.
- Attend a monthly staff meeting conducted by the full-time management staff.
- Facilitate a monthly area meeting for the RCCs.
- Coordinate and run monthly on-site support programs in the residence halls.
- Continually provide effective feedback concerning RCC performance and other aspects of the ResNET program.
- Submit monthly reports that provide feedback on performance and issues within your area.
Hours:
Typically, Senior RCCs should expect to work:
- 12 - 15 hours during the first week of Fall Training
- 20 - 25 hours during the ResNET Rush weekend, and semester startup.
- 10 - 15 hours per week after the first three weeks of the semester.
- 5 - 7 hours per week managing tickets and answering technical questions for RCCs
- 8 - 10 hours per semester on assisting with RCC Semester Projects.
- 5 - 6 hours per month for staff, area meetings, and support programs.
