Interviews

ResNET Employment InterviewPrepare yourself:

  • Know your application and résumé before the interview. You need to make sure you can demonstrate your knowledge and draw specific examples from your experiences.
  • Practice your interviewing techniques and get feedback from friends.
  • Choose your attitude. Be positive, enthusiastic and natural. Make sure you are well-rested and most importantly, be honest.

Know your interviewer:

  • Find out as much as you can about ResNET, Information Technology Services, and the Department of Housing and Residential Education before your interview.
  • If you are new to the Information Technology world, learn more by searching for articles online such as blogs and forums.
  • Anticipate the questions you may be asked and how you will answer them.
  • Come up with a few of your own questions for the interviewer (they will ask if you have any questions)
  • Carefully read the emails that the recruiter sends you.

At the interview:

  • First impressions are vital, make the most of them. Make eye contact with the interviewer and smile. Be ready to make conversation before, during, and after the interview.
  • During each question, guide the interviewer toward a discussion of your strengths.
  • Show you've done your research on the ResNET program or on Information Technology. If you have a chance, mention some of the interesting facts you discovered.
  • If you're asked a difficult question, don't feel you have to answer immediately. Take your time and think about your response.
  • Keep your answers short, but specific and clear.
  • Don't be shy and answer confidently.
