Emergency Procedures

UNC Emergency Warning

If there is a threat to the safety of individuals on campus, the UNC Emergency Warning Procedures are followed. This involves the use of all available contact devices:

  • Updating the Alert Carolina and UNC home pages.
  • Distribution Alert Carolina notifications via SMS text messaging.
  • Publishing Alert Carolina slides on UNC CATV.
  • Creating a University-wide broadcast voicemail.
  • Sending mass email.

ITS Service Emergency

If there is an unexpected problem with an ITS service, the Emergency Change Notice Procedures are followed. This involves:

  • Creating an Emergency change notice plan and subsequent change notices.
  • Collaborating with the ITS Service Desk.
  • Updating the Control Center's Message Center, which automatically updates the 'Alerts and notifications' section of help.unc.edu.
  • Broadcasting a mass voice mail to key IT groups with hourly updates during a major system or network outage.
