Summer tech support: We're here for you

Inside ITS Image - Summer Tech

A vacation from school or work doesn't mean a vacation from tech support. Whether you're here in Chapel Hill or traveling abroad, follow the tips below for IT support if computer problems threaten your peace of mind. Near or far, you can count on ITS to answer your question 24x7. Contact the Help Desk You can always contact the Help Desk at 919-962-HELP, or using the toll-free number, 1-866-962-4457, within the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. You can also submit a help request via help.unc.edu. The Help Desk directs your help requests to the analyst with relevant skills and knowledge who can best answer your questions. In addition, you now have the option to enter your PID over the phone at the beginning of the call, meaning that when the analyst answers the phone he or she can address you personally and immediately focus on the issue at hand. Plus, ITS has enabled a callback feature to allow a customer to leave a message for a non-urgent request. When the analyst has a solution, he or she will call you back, so you don't have to wait on the phone while we troubleshoot the issue. Our phone system is voice-enabled, meaning you can choose to speak your options instead of typing them on the phone's keypad. While that's handy for hands-free situations, it also increases the system's accessibility. Call Lenovo: 1-800-426-7378 All CCI computers have a four-year, international warranty. If you're in the U.S., you can call Lenovo's tech support number. They will help and, if necessary, direct you to the nearest Lenovo service provider, where you can get free support. Visit your nearest Lenovo specialist If your computer feels like your lifeline, you won't want to be without it for long. If you're not on campus, the fastest solution is to take your computer to an authorized Lenovo dealer, who can make the necessary repairs. To find the nearest Lenovo dealer, call 1-800-426-7378. Warranty repairs for your computer should be free. If you are ever asked to pay for what you think should be a covered expense, you should call the Help Desk (919-962-HELP/1-866-962-4457) and ask them to intervene. Because CCI computers have a much longer warranty than most laptops, sometimes service providers in other areas are unfamiliar with service terms. Send your computer to Lenovo If there's no nearby support, Lenovo will ship you a box and mailing label so that you can ship your computer to them for free. They'll make the appropriate repairs and send it back to you. The turnaround time for this is usually about a week. This service is available by calling the Lenovo tech support number (1-800-426-7378). For more information, visit Lenovo's site. Double-check your insurance needs Remember that while part failures are covered by warranty for free, mishandling and accidents are usually covered by insurance, which has a deductible. While your Lenovo warranty is applicable all over the world, your insurance only extends through Canada and the U.S. If you're traveling overseas this summer, you might consider leaving your computer at home or looking into additional insurance.
