New Year's Resolution #1: Protect your computer
It's a new year - time for a fresh start. For 2007, make a resolution to protect your computer - and the UNC-Chapel Hill network - with the latest security definitions. The first step is updating your Symantec client.
Should you download Windows Vista?
Not yet. Windows Vista is finally here, but IT staff on campus are still testing how it interacts with campus systems, programs and applications. Once we know more about Vista's compatibility with campus systems, we'll be able to support its use more fully. ITS anticipates supporting Windows Vista this summer.
Wireless: It's everywhere you want to be
It's not just about the office anymore. With UNC-Chapel Hill's expanding wireless network, you can access the Internet from just about anywhere on campus. ITS supports more than 950 wireless access points on and around campus, meaning wireless networking is available anywhere you want to be.
Social networking online: What's the big deal?
By now, just about everyone on campus has heard of Facebook. It's estimated that more than 90 percent of Carolina undergrads use Facebook to keep up with their friends, send messages and communicate their likes, dislikes and ideas. Other sites, like MySpace and Friendster, provide similar services. If you're on the outside looking in, the question that may come to mind is: What's the big deal?
Wireless response systems gain popularity in classrooms
It's not "Who Wants to be a Millionaire," but it's close. Response systems similar to ones used to poll studio audiences are now being used in classrooms at UNC-Chapel Hill.
