Future Developments
Although it is always difficult to predict the future, it is a good bet that the future will continue to see attempts at theft, misuse, and malicious intent to damage assets that belong to individuals and organizations. What changes will be the means by which these threats will be carried out. Just as definitions of literacy are changing, so that most secondary schools now require graduates to be 'computer literate', so too will most organizations see the need to require information security awareness. The volume of threats continues to increase, as does the overall sophistication of the attacks and the methods used to carry them out. With that as a background, the Information Security Office at UNC-Chapel Hill has been working on developing a module to deliver security awareness training to staff. Our goal is that the security awareness training will become an annual requirement for all staff and new students.
