ITS participates in 2009 CTC Retreat

On Friday, Oct. 23, ITS staff members joined IT professionals from across the UNC-Chapel Hill campus for the 2009 Carolina Technology Consultants (CTC) Retreat at the Frank Porter Graham Student Union. The retreat offered participants the opportunity to share expertise and information on the constantly changing world of IT and its impact on Carolina.

CTC Retreat schedule features ITS presenters

Several ITS employees will present at the 2009 Carolina Technology Consultants (CTC) Retreat, which will be held at the Frank Porter Graham Student Union on Friday, Oct. 23 from 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. The annual CTC Retreat brings together campus IT employees for a day of learning and professional networking. Registration for the event is now open at the CTC Web site.

This year’s theme is "Lean and Green."   The CTC Retreat will feature presentations on important areas of campus IT, instructional technologies, emerging issues and discussions about initiatives and opportunities for IT in the new green economy.

The Road to ITS: Ken Yow

He attended his first UNC-Chapel Hill football game at the age of five; he fished with his father almost every day of his childhood in Deep River; he played in rock and roll, country, blues, beach and bluegrass bands; and was one of the first recipient’s of the Governor’s Award for Excellence. 

Ken Yow, on-site support services manager for User Support and Engagement, grew up in a North Carolina that has largely disappeared.

Scholarship recognizes Ron Taylor

Anika Fisher will find it a little easier financially to attend UNC-Chapel Hill this year.  A senior and double major in Communications and American Studies from New Bern, N.C., Fisher is the recipient of a scholarship awarded in recognition of long-time ITS employee, Ron Taylor.

Taylor, who served Carolina for 34 years before retiring in 2006, has been recognized by the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid with a one-time scholarship in his name awarded to a student with need.

The Road to ITS: Tim McGuire

He fondly remembers his high school days as his “glory days.”  He’s a “dead-head,” lives with a menagerie of animals and turned his biggest regret into a life lesson.

Born in Winston-Salem and raised in Kernersville, Tim McGuire blossomed during high school.

“I went from a small, conservative, Christian private elementary school to a diverse public high school of 1700 students. That era of my life really shaped who I am today.  They were my glory days!” said McGuire.
