Computer Requirement and Purchase (CCI)

What is the CCI?

The Computer Requirement and Purchase service, which is more commonly known as the Carolina Computing Initiative (CCI), aims to ensure that UNC-Chapel Hill students, faculty, and staff have easy access to high-quality and affordable technology and can use it effectively.

One of the foremost efforts of the initiative is the requirement that undergraduates at the University own laptop computers that meet University specifications. All incoming undergradate and graduate students at UNC-Chapel Hill are encouraged to participate in the Carolina Computing Initiative by purchasing a CCI laptop model.

How to Get Started

For more details on how to best take advantage of this service, see the CCI web site. This site provides information on the current minimum required specifications for computers and the details of current models being offered by the program.

To purchase a CCI computer, review the models available, decide which machine you want to buy, and then log into applicantcentral.unc.edu with your social security or UNC personal ID number. Then look for the Purchase Your CCI Laptop button. Alternately, you can call 919-962-8534 Monday-Friday 10am-5pm (closed holidays).
