ITS Chili Cookoff nets $612 for SECC

The 10th annual ITS Chili Cookoff netted $612 for the State Employees Combined Campaign. The proceeds will be split between three charities:  A Helping Hand, Alzheimer’s Foundation of America and Habitat for Humanity of Orange County.

Perennial favorite Tim Coynesmith once again scored tops in the Beat Meaty Chili with his “Kill It and Skillet.”

Feeling stressed?  Then “chili out” at the ITS Chili Cookoff on Thursday, Nov. 19.  Join your friends and colleagues at 11:30 a.m. at ITS Franklin to enjoy meat or meatless versions of chili as well as desserts and side dishes.

Currently, just 19 intrepid ITSers have “chefed up.”  It’s not too late, though.  If you want to help out with a dish or two, please contact Kirsten Vollmer, Nancy Verboon or Karen Rowland

A $4 suggested donation will be taken at the door and all proceeds will go to the North Carolina State Employees Combined Campaign which supports local charities.
 

Connecting Enterprise Applications and ConnectCarolina

What does the future hold for Enterprise Applications (EA) and ConnectCarolina when ConnectCarolina moves from project mode to production operations?

According to Deputy CIO Robyn East and ConnectCarolina Project Director Jerri Bland, EA team members who support the Finance and Human Resources applications today are anticipated to be active participants in the ConnectCarolina implementation of these functions over the next couple of years. Project tasks will be coordinated with production support responsibilities to encourage this participation.

Functional and/or technical PeopleSoft training in early 2010 will be provided for all staff on the impacted production support teams.

Do you work with someone who consistently goes the extra mile or who had a recent accomplishment that deserves recognition?  If so, go the extra mile and nominate your colleague for an Unsung Hero Award.  Nominations should be sent to Diane Strong, Campus Box 1150 by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20.

Sponsored by the Employee Council, the Unsung Hero Awards are part of a recognition program designed to honor achievements by ITS staff.  To obtain a nomination form, please visit the Employee Council Web site using Internet Explorer as your Web browser.

Due to current budget concerns, winners will receive three days of leave instead of a cash award.  The award presentations will take place at an ITS potluck lunch on Thursday, Dec. 10 at ITS Manning.

Make a mean meat or vegetarian chili, a sweet dessert or tasty cornbread?  Then share it with your friends and co-workers at the 10th Annual ITS Chili Cookoff!

Webmasters explore designing outside the browser

The November Webmasters meeting will feature the presentation Designing Outside the Browser by Richard Powell, a freelance Web designer working in Chapel Hill. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Graduate Student Center.

The presentation will look beyond the browser window, explore the techniques designers in other disciplines have used to solve their unique design problems and how to apply those lessons.

ConnectCarolina holds Town Hall meeting Nov. 9

The University community has a unique opportunity to learn how the ConnectCarolina project will improve interaction with the University at a Town Hall meeting on Monday, Nov. 9, 2-3 p.m. at Gerrard Hall.

Members of the Stakeholder Committees will provide a project update on the student services, human resources, payroll and finance components of the fully integrated administrative system. The Executive Steering Committee members will speak to the importance of the ConnectCarolina project to their respective areas. Questions are welcomed.
