Nealy Hall notes that 2005 leave records will be e-mailed to all ITS SPA permanent employees no later than Friday (Jan. 20). (Employee ID numbers will be blacked out before the records are sent.) Review your leave record carefully, comparing your notes about vacation, sick and other leave with ITS-HR's records. Report any discrepancies to Nealy no later than Friday, Jan. 27. With over 400 employees to track, Nealy credits Matt Conley and the ITS Distributed Systems group with creating a much more efficient way to distribute employee leave records.

TAP Planning Monthly Lecture Series

John Oberlin, associate vice chancellor for Technology Planning and Special Projects, says Technology Assessment and Planning (TAP) is planning a new monthly lecture series called TAP Talks.The first session, a Freaky Friday on Jan. 27, will be an overview of TAP and a consideration of how ITS can accelerate the assimilation and understanding of new technology. Speakers will also consider what that new technology enables both for ITS and for all campus."TAP is just part of our strategy for leadership," said Oberlin. "It's one asset among many that we have in ITS."Oberlin added that TAP staff have already made plans for some collaborative projects with other ITS and campus units, such as ITS–Teaching & Learning, User Support & Engagement and the School of Information and Library Science. Look for more details about these projects in future issues of The Hub.

Marinshaw Named Senior Research Manager

Ruth Marinshaw has been named ITS senior research manager, a new position in the office of the CIO and reporting to Dr. Dan Reed. She will support the IT strategic planning process, serve as a liaison to campus groups and organizations, and assist with ITS processes and procedures. Since the reorganization, Marinshaw has served as the acting assistant vice chancellor for Research Computing. Asked what appealed to her about the senior research manager position, Marinshaw responded that she loved her work and the people in Research Computing, and with this new role she maintains some ties there but also gains a broader picture of ITS and even all of campus. "I think in ITS we're going to do great things," said Marinshaw. "It's exciting to have the opportunity to have a hand in that."--LJB

Misdirected Remedy Tickets

Occasionally a Remedy ticket will wind up assigned to the wrong group. If you receive a ticket that's not yours, please send it on to the proper group (if known) and send a note to the ITRC–Managers group about the error. The ITRC–Managers group is also the best contact if you don't know who should get the ticket. Let them know, too, if there is a pattern to the errors.

EPAWeb Is Ready!

ITS Enterprise Applications, in collaboration with the Office of Human Resources, recently completed the EPAWeb Personnel Action System. The new system rolled out on Jan. 9 and is designed to improve the reliability and accuracy of EPA (Exempt from Personnel Act) personnel transactions, streamline and simplify EPA human resources business processes and create a comprehensive and accessible repository of EPA personnel data. About 2,400 actions were completed in the first week alone. Congratulations to our teams!--HKC

Keep Your New Year's Resolution to Get Fit!

"Now is the perfect time to start, continue or return to a regular fitness program," says Lauren Mangili, director of Carolina Fitness. Mangili listed some low-cost campus resources to get you on your way.Campus Recreation (Student Recreation Center and Rams Head Recreation Center) welcomes employees. Information about membership and eligibility is on their Web site.Group Fitness classes: Employees are welcome to participate in all classes offered through Carolina Fitness. Some classes are designed just for faculty and staff:
  • Monday through Friday, 12:15-1:00 p.m., upstairs in the Student Recreation Center, offering a variety of cardio, strength and stretch activities
  • Tuesday and Thursday, 5:15-6:00 p.m. in the indoor pool, water aerobics classes
  • Wednesday, 5:15-6:00 p.m. in 112 Women's Gym (men and women welcome), yoga
  • Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-7:00 p.m., kung fu (for more information please contact Hinár Polczer).
There is also a faculty/staff fitness center that is open from noon until 2:00 p.m. weekdays.
